| Our
country is well known for its generosity and support for victims
of calamity abroad. In the same spirit JIMAS called upon the
wider community to come forward to assist those in need here
at home in the UK. We organized a sponsored fast to coincide
with a day during the month of Ramadan 2008. According to our
pledge we donated £10.00 for every non-Muslim who was able to
fast a day with us in any form or manner. This could have been
done e.g., even by refraining from swearing, smoking, anger,
and unkindess, besides giving up food or drink.
Around
30 non-Muslims who had fasted, two had fasted for every single
day so far, i.e., 21 days, and another had done 12 days! The
total amount donated to FIND after rounding up came to £2,000.
A
prize was given for each person in the following categories:
The
person who had done brought the most guests
The person who had fasted the most number of days
The person who had raised the most funds from non-Muslims
The
person who had done the most original fast
Councillor
Jane Chambers had raised the highest amount from the non-Muslims
and won a dinner for two at the Bistro on the Quay in Ipswich.
