Projects for Our Homeless

IPSWICH WINTER NIGHT SHELTER

JIMAS have teamed up with seven churches that are working together to provide a night shelter in Ipswich for the winter. They will take it in turns to offer a night's accommodation to homeless people everyday throughout the months from December until February. Muslim volunteers from JIMAS are taking part in this initiative.

The churches involved are Burlington Baptist Church, Ipswich International Church, Holy Trinity Church, The Salvation Army, Hope Church and a combined shelter from Christ Church URC Baptist Church and St Pancras Church.

We understand that the suffering of breaking hearts through being unwanted is greater than the pangs of a meager diet, or scant clothing in cold weather, with only the sky as shelter at night. By joining in these efforts we take part in a small way to give them through our hands their daily bread, and by our understanding, love, peace and rest.

Earn the forgiveness of Allah by sharing the joy of faith by making those in need feel wanted and dignified.

If our hearts are free of slavery to others but happily enslaved to the One God; Allah; then we have clean enough hearts that can love others for His sake. Such hearts should satisfy the hunger for love in the poor and the lonely. We can give them warmth with kindness in our faces and smiles in our eyes.

How else do you seek peace if not through service unto others? What is the fruit of your faith, how does your faith deepen, and why do you pray? When we listen to our hearts in silence what do we hear?

Providing some essential winter items in a personal package to our homeless in Ipswich, wholly funded by JIMAS and the kind donations of people, thus enabling the community to be sincere, self-reliant and generous.

For the JIMAS "Project for Our Homeless" in January 2011, we liaised with the Salvation Army, the Umbrella Trust, Primark, and BBC Radio Suffolk. A gift-box consisting of the following items were put together as Winter Warmer Gifts for distribution by our volunteers as a gesture of kindness and goodness:

  • Draw-string rucksack
  • Thermal vest
  • Foil blanket
  • Hat
  • Gloves
  • Rain poncho
  • Toothbrush & paste travel set
  • Lip balm
  • Sweets
  • Jimas letter
  • Helpful organisations list

JIMAS is a UK Muslim Educational Charity that engages people from any background, whatever their beliefs. JIMAS voluntarily serves the whole British community through various charitable projects in order to improve our society by being neighbourly, compassionate, filling gaps where needs are not fully met, and by doing things of common benefit for all. We are completely self-funded. We have grown to be a trusted and reliable part of Ipswich life and people.
