Islam in the Modern World

The course was organised by Clive Mobbs (Suffolk County WEA Organiser) and Cynthia Capey of SIFRE. Dr. Peter Fells was in charge of each session who along with his colleagues provided excellent hospitality and warmth to the entire experience. Laurence Clarke was marvellous in designing a poster for the course. Our many thanks and gratitude go to all of them and to those who took part.

The course was attended by around 35 men and women. The participants were very polite and wonderful in their understanding and manners and made the teacher feel very comfortable. Their generally Christian values and upbringing brought warmth to the whole experience.

Besides typed out handouts on various subjects, the following books were freely made available to each participant:

1. Teach Yourself Islam by Ruqaiyyah Waris Maqsood ISBN 0-340-85968-7
2. The Qur'an - A New Translation by Thomas Cleary ISBN 1-929694-44-X
3. The Prophet Muhammad - A Biography by Barnaby Rogerson ISBN 0-316-96175-8
(This book was chosen instead of the biography authored by Martin Lings because it was not available in sufficient number from the publishers)

A few copies of Islam Denounces Terrorism ISBN 0-9540544-1-5 by Harun Yahya were sold at cost price.

The participants voluntary donated a sum of £252.75 to JIMAS - mant thanks to them for this most generous contribution.
