Indonesia's health ministry announced that the country's death toll was now 166,320, an increase of more than 50,000 on previous estimates. The new figure brings the total number of people now known to have died to 226,566. The Guardian on 20/01/05

ORGANISED BY AL-NOOR SCHOOL
in co-operation with the MCB, JIMAS,
Muslim Weekly, Islam Channel
and Taqwa Carpets.

The natural disaster has taken an unimaginable toll on the people of the area and has put each and every one of us to the test of bringing help, relief, comfort and charity to the victims. We the Muslims should be at the forefront of this effort for the sake of Allah because we seek His forgiveness and love to seize the opportunities given us by Allah to show faith in practice. The emergency relief and reconstruction costs are expected to run into tens of billions of dollars. It is highly unlikely given that we know our capabilities and individual resources whether even after a series of fund raising efforts over a good period of time we will in reality raise all the finances needed. However we trust in the guidance and help from Allah and we seek His blessings in all our affairs. Please come with an open heart and sincere desire to please Allah.
